Sequestered by Sandy

With the storm approaching and all modes of transportation shut down, we cannot get to Port Chester. Beth was able to weather the wind and rain and we had a little studio time just now. I found an old series of monotypes and cut out the morula shapes to add to our installation. Beth walked over to New York Central this morning and brought over samples of paper that we will be using to create some collaborative works on paper that will hang as part of the project.
We look forward to getting back to work at the gallery as soon as possible.
Please stay safe and dry and stay tuned!

Day 3 - Bloody Barnacles!

Today things really started coming together, now we are both working on the walls drawing, painting, sculpting.  And, our neighbor David lent us tall ladders and scaffolding so look out ceilings, here we come!

2nd day - plotting and mapping.

Day 2 began with a parking challenge....

Most of Port Chester has two-hour metered parking but, with the help of a few local residents, and my Spanish, we learned about Poningo Street...All-day free street parking!

We began by mapping the Byram River onto the gallery walls, first in white tape and then with graphite. We then began plotting where the major clusters of visual activity would be, first in sketches and then I started drawing directly on the walls.

Beth ventured out in search of old Port Chester phonebooks and found some from the turn of the century at the public library. She turned the paper into pulp which she is now sculpting into barnacles, stay tuned for pictures of those tomorrow!

Sea Anemones and Other Inspirations

Beth and I have all of our materials packed up and ready to start our installation project tomorrow.
I was looking through some old images for inspiration and found this, from the New England Aquarium in Boston, one of my favorite places to visit!

Sponges

Beth and I got together yesterday to start work on the project and we were talking about sponges. Here are a couple nice ones that I have collected in my travels to watery places!
